Job Purpose
The Director of IT will deliver a step change in our IT capability and architecture so that AFG can deliver its vision of becoming a a digitally empowered organisation by 2027.
To deliver that vision we will need to replace solutions that no longer meet our needs, implement new technologies to join up our systems and ensure we have the data we need to run the charity, and strengthen the IT team’s capability to deliver change at pace and scale.
You will be an exemplar of great leadership, visibly modelling the behaviours of our Leadership Code and our Competency Framework. You will promote and foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, quality and accountability in all areas of the charity.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- To design and deliver a programme of IT change building on our new Digital Social Care record project.
- To provide inspirational leadership to the IT team.
- To put in place the necessary IT governance arrangements to ensure successful delivery of the IT programme covering major projects to small changes.
- To ensure that all IT projects are delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality.
- To deliver continuous improvements in the current IT service, significantly increasing the value it adds to the organisation and its responsiveness.
- To manage within the agreed revenue and capital budgets.
- To play a key role within AFG’s Executive & Director Team working across functions so that the charity can continue deliver outstanding support and to continuously improve what it does.
- To contribute to the shaping and delivery of Assistive Technology projects for people with complex needs.
- To develop effective partnerships with leading providers of technology services.
- To regularly review wider developments in the IT industry which may offer opportunities to enhance AFG’s services
- To develop an external profile around the use of technology to enhance the delivery of care and support
- To ensure that AFG follows industry best practices subject to budgetary constraints

Skills and Knowledge
- Strong leadership skills generating respect from others in terms of both IT and non-IT skills and knowledge
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
- Highly skilled in presenting and writing for an executive and board audience
- Detailed knowledge of IT infrastructure, applications, data, and cybersecurity relevant to health and social care
- Good knowledge of assistive technology
- Able to engage well with the people we support and staff
- Innovative and solution focused
- Ability to make things happen at pace
- Strong commercial and financial acumen
- Project and programme management skills
- Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft products and services
Experience
- Experience in running IT services in health or social care or a similar organisation to AFG
- Experience in transforming IT services at pace and scale
- Experience of Electronic Patient Records systems in health or Care Management Systems in social care
- Experience of deploying / maintaining MS Dynamics products
Qualifications and Training
- Educated to Degree level in Computer Science or similar
- At least five years’ experience of running and transforming IT services

We offer a car allowance of between £7,840 - £9,800 per annum
This role is Band IV as per our structure.
