  • Introduction 

    Alternative Futures Group has a strategic ambition to be a sector leader in quality, value and personal outcomes over the next 2 years and we know that co-production will be a key element of our strategy to deliver this.  We know that individuals with lived experience of mental health, learning disability and autism are best placed to advise on what support and services will make a positive difference to people and their communities. 

    Through our co-production strategy we want to: 

    • Change the way the organisation thinks and works by involving people with lived experience, staff and other stakeholders in decision making in a meaningful way. 
    • Develop co-production as the golden thread running through the entire business. 
    • Develop a culture of continuous improvement driven by the talent and ambition of people with lived experience. 
    • Influence the sector to move away from commissioning hours of support to outcomes-based commissioning. 
    • Develop new and innovative service and support models based on the personalisation agenda. 
    • Ensure that people are not excluded because of equalities issues or because of the nature of their difficulties. 
    • Revise our Quality Assurance Framework to include the skills and expertise of people with lived experience in evaluating, and improving, what we do. 
    • Align ourselves to CQC’s single assessment framework and ensure the charity meets statutory guidance and regulatory requirements. 
    • Benchmark our quality and safety performance against the wider health and social care sector. 

    Job Purpose 

    To lead on the implementation of a strategic approach to co-production, ensuring that the necessary structures, policies, and procedures to support co-production are developed and embedded.  

    To drive the co-production agenda across the organisation. Thus, improving personal outcomes, user experience and organisational effectiveness.  

     

    Dimensions 

    • There is currently no line management responsibility. However, it is anticipated that in due course the post-holder will be responsible for the management of a small co-production team  
    • Responsible for the co-production budget of £40k 

     Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities 

    • Leadership and delivery of AFG’s Co-production Strategy through engaging senior leaders, managers, staff, people supported, patients and carers. 
    • Develop and implement an approach to the reward and recognition of people supported, patients and carers. 
    • Developing organisational capacity and capability to understand and practice co-production effectively through mentoring and coaching.  
    • Design and implement an approach to the evaluation of co-production and the impact on people supported, patients and carers and our wider charitable purpose.   
    • Convene and lead a Co-production Steering Committee. 
    • Lead on recruitment, induction and development of co-production group members. 
    • Develop and produce a monthly update report to the business on progress in co-production. 
    • Develop and produce an annual report to the AFG Board on progress in co-production. 
    • Work within the defined process and limits of AFGs Scheme of Reservation and Delegation (SORD). 
    • Managing and delivering within agreed targets the co-production budget and annual business plan deliverables to ensure cost-effective deployment, management and utilisation of resources and non-pay spend. 
    • Maintain an understanding of principles of co-production and best practice guidance, as well as national developments participation and involvement in learning disabilities, autism and mental health services. 
    • Acting as a Leader and Ambassador for the organisation, it’s purpose and its people at all times. 
    • Demonstrating a high level of expertise and understanding of co-production and effectively contributing to the overall strategic development of the organisation as a member of the Quality Team. 
    • Ensuring on-going feedback on the organisation is obtained from individuals, families, professionals and groups to determine priorities for improvements to organisational objectives. Ensuring a culture of engagement and full involvement of the people we support. 
    • Developing connections with regional teams that actively encourage and increase the voices of people we support in the running of AFG and upholding the reputation of the organisation as a ‘person-centred’ organisation. 

    Person Specification - please only apply if you meet the criteria detailed below: 

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Resilient and able to work at a pace and manage competing priorities. 
    • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)  
    • IT literate.  
    • An understanding and knowledge of good practice models in co-production, self-advocacy, participation and involvement.  
    • An understanding and knowledge of health and social care policy, legislation and regulatory frameworks around co-production, advocacy and participation. 
    • Knowledge of change management theory and practice 
    • Group facilitation and servicing of working groups  
    • Understanding and knowledge of accessible communication 

    Experience

    • Experience of working with a wide range of organisational stakeholders 
    • Experience of working with senior managers   
    • Experience of representing and co-producing with people with lived experience of mental health issues, learning disabilities and autism. 
    • Experience of leading and managing within complex systems  
    • Experience of facilitating and servicing co-production groups or similar  
    • Experience of communicating complex information to a wide variety of stakeholders taking into consideration their access requirements 
    • Experience of understanding complex information and presenting it clearly and in various accessible formats to a range of different stakeholders  
    • Experience of convening, designing and delivering training

    • Car driver with full license.  
    • Ability to travel across the Northwest and wider.  
    • Expectation to be in regions at least 2 days per week.
